Kabrapahad near Raigarh

Tourism in Raigarh

In close proximity to Raigarh lies the famous rocks of Kabra pahad. Here you’ll find a number of paintings which are mostly saffron in color. The paintings here are well preserved as compared to the ones at Singhanpur. You will find paintings of animals like wild buffaloes, turtles along with geometrical patterns too. The paintings here mostly portray ritualistic tribal dance. Even though these paintings are a thousand years old, most of these dances depicted in the paintings still remain the same in the tribal communities even today

Singhanpur near Raigarh

Singhanpur is the place to visit if you’re an archeological buff. Located 40 km away from Raigarh, this city is home to some of the oldest sculptures found till date. These ancient caves hold some sculptures that date back to 30000 BC. All the sculptures here are of great archeologist value and look very similar to the Mexican and Spanish sculptures. The paintings here are the oldest among the region. The images depicted at these caves are of elongated male figures, mermaids, animal motifs and hunting scenes. There have been over 300 paintings discovered on the outskirts of the village Basnajhar, 17 kms south-west of Singhanpur.

Gomarda Reserve Forest

If you are looking for wildlife and adventurous trip, Gomarda Reserve Forest is the place for you to visit. This sanctuary spread over 278 km2 is inhabited by various species of different kinds of animals and birds. It is a natural home for many wild animals. Although this sanctuary is open throughout the year the best time to visit is from November to June. They have plenty of exotic flora and fauna. In the forests you can find evergreen precious teak, sal forests and many other trees along with animals like tigers, panther, antelope, deer, chinkara, gazelle and sambhar etc.

Gomarda Reserve Forest

You can also find other species like the Nilgai, Chausingha, sloth bear, wild boar, jackal and hyena. There are plenty of birds too like the fowl, quail, pigeon, parrot, peacock and stork. There are also migratory birds that visit this place. You can find a lot of rare and stunning birds at this sanctuary making it every bird watchers paradise.

Ramjharana near Raigarh

This tourist spot lies 18km from Raigarh district. It shows us how beautiful Mother Nature really is with its numerous waterfalls. Though they may be small they are absolutely breath taking and definitely worth a visit. This place makes a perfect picnic spot with a scenic view. This place received its name from Lord Ram who is said to have drank the water from the source.

Balaji temple is an extremely popular tourist spot in Raigarh. Known for its famous wall painting of Lord Ram’s Life, people from all over come to visit. The temple has been around for a long time. It was built by Shri Balbhadra Dasji and Shri Bhosleji in the year 1610. Lord Balaji is the main deity which is worshiped in the temple. Some of the other famous temples found in and around Raigarh are Gaurishankar Mandir, Shayam Mandir, Banjari Mandir 20 km from District Headquarters, Pahadh Mandir, Goga Peer Mandir Jute Mill Road, Chandrahasini Mandir etc. Kamla Nehru Park, Haritima, Indira Vihar, Rose Garden, Eco Park are some of the most famous parks frequently visited by tourist.

How to Reach Raigarh ?

Raigarh is well connected with many major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Ahmedabad, Jaipur etc. The Bilaspur railway station is a regional hub which can take at a distance of 132km from Raigarh. Raigarh Junction is located within the radius of the city. Another sub station known as Kirodimal Nagar railway station is also there.

The nearest airport is located in the city of Bilaspur. In July 2013, Chhattisgarh government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Airport Authority of India to make Raigarh airport as the states second airport for domestic flights. There is also a private airport located 10km north west of the city owned by the Jindal Steel and Power Limited.
